A bill pending in a Kentucky House committee would form a group called the Kentucky Livestock Care Standards Commission that would monitor "animal well-being and agricultural best management practices; herd health; and safe, affordable, healthy food supplies for consumers."
An endodontist performed a root canal surgery on a 700-pound lion at the Cat Tales Zoological Park in Spokane, Wash., which was suffering from a toothache caused by missing fangs. The dental procedure was intended to prevent infection, among other possible complications.
The Connecticut Department of Agriculture ordered a 14-day quarantine on a store in Branchville that sold a dog found to be infected with canine parvo virus. "The purpose of the quarantine is, if any of the other dogs are incubating the virus, the virus will manifest itself within that 14 day period," the state agency's animal control supervisor said.
