Shell is in talks with the Iraqi government to develop a natural gas project that would capture more than 700 million cubic feet of gas a day in southern Iraq. Mounir Bouaziz, Shell's Middle East vice president for new business, said the company is waiting for a new Iraqi government coalition to form before it can finalize a deal. Shell has promised to use the gas to meet domestic needs, such as power generation, before it ships the rest as liquefied natural gas from Iraqi ports.
