Students from the Washington State School for the Blind received cross-country skiing lessons from trained instructors at Mount Hood's Teacup Lake Nordic Ski Area in Oregon. The outing was part of the school's goal of preparing students to participate in all aspects of life, including recreational activities such as skiing, scuba-diving and riding bikes. "When they leave here, we want them to be as independent as possible," the school's recreation and volunteer coordinator said.
