Massachusetts residents gambled almost $1 billion in 2009 at casinos in New England, according to a study by gaming consultant Clyde Barrow. Despite the recession, Bay State residents wagered $968.3 million in 2009, a 5% increase from the prior year. Massachusetts is considering legalizing gambling in the state to compete with Connecticut and Rhode Island.
