Affresol, a company based in the U.K., has developed a technology to convert landfill-bound materials, such as plastic packaging and manufacturing waste, into a product called Thermo Poly Rock that can be used to build low-carbon homes. TPR is waterproof, fire retardant, rot-resistant and an excellent insulator, aside from being stronger and lighter than concrete, said Ian McPherson, an Affresol executive.
