Virgin America plans to lease nine additional Airbus jets as it seeks to launch service in five new markets by year's end. CEO David Cush said expansion has been on hold while the Transportation Department investigated the airline's ownership structure, making it impossible to obtain financing. But now that Virgin America has been cleared as a corporate "U.S. citizen," Cush said the carrier will return to its original growth plan, which calls for about 12 new aircraft each year.
