The incoming CEO of Canada's WestJet is focused on securing code-share deals with international partners to compete on a global level. Gregg Saretsky has indicated that a U.S. partnership is a priority, but he says he may not wait for Southwest Airlines to overhaul its reservations system to allow for a long-anticipated alliance between the two discount giants. "We like the Southwest partnership, but they've signaled to us that they're not going to be ready," says Saretsky, adding that he is ready to "move on and tee things up with another partner." Saretsky says Delta Air Lines has expressed interest in a partnership -- a move that could make even more sense if WestJet gets five slots at New York LaGuardia, where Delta dominates.
