Facebook is planning to tweak the language it uses to connect users with brands, switching the current "Become a Fan" button for a "Like" button. The network says the "lighter-weight actions" would help humanize brands and make it easier for companies to forge relationships with users. Still, notes Erik Sass, the move removes a distinction between brands and people that some users may have found useful, and risks making Facebook marketing less transparent.
