Four adult beavers recently were found dead at Beaver Pond in Telluride, Colo. A necropsy by the state's Division of Wildlife confirmed the animals' cause of death to be tularemia, or "rabbit fever," a fatal bacteria that affects rabbits, rodents and beavers. In rare cases, the bacteria can spread to cats, dogs and even humans, a local veterinarian says.
