The FCC's tentative proposal to free up cable providers to offer low-cost, high-definition set-top boxes will enable bandwidth-strapped firms to offer advanced services more quickly, according to the American Cable Association. In a statement, the ACA said it "applauds the Federal Communications Commission for tentatively concluding ... that small cable operators can provide better service to their customers, including faster broadband speeds, by having greater flexibility under existing set-top box rules to offer low-cost, high-definition boxes."
