The Lower Rio Grande Valley, the area just on the American side of the U.S.-Mexico border in southern Texas, is not generally a draw for people interested in nature. But for bird watchers, the valley is one of the best in the country. "I can easily get 50 to 60 species in a day," said Gabe De Jong, a park naturalist at the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands.
