More than a decade ago, British physician Andrew Wakefield identified a new bowel disease linked to autism in a now-discredited paper that proposed a connection between autism and the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine, and researchers say the condition may not even exist. No distinctive inflammation could be found by independent experts who examined hospital reports on the biopsy evidence for autistic enterocolitis.
