The chairman of the Senate banking committee, Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., said he is standing firm to prevent his proposed Consumer Financial Protection Bureau from being removed from the Senate's financial regulation bill. After months of debate, Dodd went along with putting the bureau within the Federal Reserve but as an agency with some independence. Some lobbyists are still trying to persuade Democrats and Republicans to eliminate the bureau entirely.
