A number of California schools celebrate Earth Day all year long by involving students in their efforts to recycle. Students in the special-education Advancement Via Individual Determination program at Fesler Junior High School lead their school's initiative and use the money they raise from recycling bottles to pay for class trips. "It's building self-esteem for our [students with special needs] because they're providing services to our school and, of course, it gets us all thinking more environmentally," said Principal Barbara Walker.
