Florida teachers are urging Gov. Charlie Crist to veto a controversial bill that ties teacher pay to student test scores, including Megan Allen, the state's 2010 teacher of the year and a finalist for the national award. Allen, a National Board Certified Teacher, writes in a letter to Crist that the bill will hurt education and that eliminating a stipend for NBCTs may mean fewer Florida teachers will go through the "transformative process" of certification. Special-education teacher Liza Johnson, who is applying for certification, questions how the bill will measure her students' achievement and calls it a "detriment to education."
