Wal-Mart's sustainability drive, spearheaded by CEO Lee Scott, is having a secondary or incidental effect on the company's massive global supply chain. The retailer requires all its 100,000 suppliers to declare their carbon emissions and now intends to pressure all partner companies to slash energy and water use. "It's just a start, but it's a good start," Scott says.
