The British National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence recently has ruled that the treadmill test is not sufficient for most of the patients complaining of chronic chest pain or shortness of breath that could be heart-related. Additional medication and the changes in the heart disease process have made the procedure less sensitive, NICE said. The agency is recommending that patients with a moderate risk of heart disease and chest pain should undergo tests such as CT and nuclear cardiac scans.
