The gap in wages between women and men is shrinking, according to Labor Department figures released Tuesday on Equal Pay Day. The median usual weekly earnings for women was $665 for the first quarter of the year, about 79% of the $844 that men earned. That compares with 76% in the first quarter of 2000. "American families, communities and our entire economy suffer as a result of this disparity," President Barack Obama said.
