Fifty recent college graduates are testing their mettle this year in Massachusetts classrooms as the first Teach for America recruits to work in the state. School officials sought out the program in the hopes of attracting and retaining talented young educators to offset a shortage of educators who specialize in science, math and special education, and state officials hope to expand the program. "The teachers seem to be doing very well out of the gate," a Boston school administrator said.
