A Virginia district has approved a plan to pay teachers and principals bonuses for helping to turnaround disadvantaged schools. Under the plan, which is contingent on federal funding, the entire school would be rewarded for success -- not just individual teachers. Officials say they hope that strategy will lead to collaboration. The bonuses are expected to range from $2,000 to $10,000 and be awarded based on teacher evaluations, student test scores, parental satisfaction, student attendance, the availability of professional development and other factors.
