CDC researchers who reviewed data for 5.3 million children hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed flu discovered that the median age of those who contracted H1N1 flu was 5, compared with a median age of 1 for children with 2003-2009 seasonal flu. Children in the H1N1 flu group also had a higher rate of having been being born prematurely or having other medical conditions, including asthma and sickle-cell disease, the study showed.
