A 2008 survey found that 1.4% of the children in 5,300 households suffered from peanut allergies -- more than three times higher than the 0.4% recorded in a 1997 survey. The lead researcher called it an "alarming increase" and said additional study is needed. The level of adult peanut allergies remained at 1.3%, the survey found.
