Despite shocked headlines around the world after an Egyptian-American passenger arrived in Cairo carrying two handguns and 250 bullets in his checked luggage, "Americans bring guns to airports all the time," writes Allan Lengel. Hunters, members of the armed forces and others can check guns on U.S. flights, provided the firearms are declared to the airlines and stored safely. Guns in carry-on bags are "clearly illegal," but that doesn't stop plenty of passengers from trying: So far this year, 266 firearms have been confiscated at airport security checkpoints.
