Ford engineers and Michigan students are setting off on a social-media road trip, driving two custom-built Ford Fiestas across the country to test a suite of social applications. The social tools include mobile applications designed to help caravans of vehicles stay in touch, share information about fuel use and even to allow one of the cars to automatically post tweets based on internal data sensors and engine codes. "The car is the ultimate mobile device," says one Ford engineer.
