Airport security would be better if officials were able to pay "more attention to the luggage and people they know nothing about," according to former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge. Rather than adding ever more technology to airports, Ridge says the TSA should implement a more rigorous registered traveler program to reduce the time wasted on screening honest passengers and free up more resources for higher-risk travelers. Ridge says he pushed for such a system during his tenure at DHS but it was rejected for reasons he still does not understand.
