As Defense Secretary Robert Gates steps up efforts to cut back on defense spending and reform the way the Pentagon spends its billions on weapons, defense industry lobbyists and veterans groups are mounting their own efforts to push back against the changes. Budget watchdogs have applauded Gates' proposal that the Pentagon could reduce overhead costs by $10 billion to $15 billion, but defense experts say he will face a major battle on Capitol Hill from lobbyists and interest groups.
