Officials at a public magnet school for gifted students that opened in Louisiana's Jefferson Parish in October 2005 -- just after Hurricane Katrina -- have worked to develop programs and classes that would engage and excite their academically advanced and ethnically diverse student body. The school held its first commencement Saturday. "We've achieved a great deal in five years," the school's principal said. "We've encompassed every aspect of the high school experience. But this year, everything really came together."
