Police used tear gas to keep about 1,000 anti-gay protesters away from about 500 marchers in Lithuania's first gay pride parade Saturday. The event drew supporters from across Europe, including Birgitta Ohlsson, the Swedish minister for European Affairs, who told participants, "Today we are marching for freedom, today we are marching for equality, today we are marching for Europe ... that we would never accept homophobia taking over our streets."
