A study that compared the function of conventional SPECT with that of a new SPECT system from Spectrum Dynamics found that the systems yielded comparable results in identifying cardiac perfusion defects. The new system, however, got results in just two to four minutes, one-seventh of the time it took for conventional SPECT. The shorter acquisition time for the new system could allow for reduced exposure to radiation, according to the study.
