A Chinese city recently adopted a textbook that teaches primary- and secondary-school students about animal protection and welfare. "Biology textbooks teach you how to protect wild or exotic animals, while the new one draws students closer to the animals living around them, such as cats and dogs," said the head of the animal-protection group that wrote the textbook. Schools using the text will include one lesson every two weeks on animal protection, and teachers will take students outdoors for some lessons.
