Intel and Nokia have fired their initial volley in their attempt to compete with Google's Android for primacy among open-source wireless software. The partners have released MeeGo 1.0, the first code from its Linux-based operating system that is expected to debut next month on various mobile Internet and in-car devices next month. MeeGo 1.1, for netbooks and touch-based devices, is scheduled for an October release.
