Novozymes and Royal Nedalco announced plans to co-develop a new process for fermenting C5 and C6 sugars, an essential step toward bringing cellulosic ethanol to the market. Under the terms of the deal, Royal Nedalco will create different strains of C5 yeast that the partners will subsequently test. "This partnership will aim to widen and speed up the commercial availability of C5 fermentation technology to cellulosic biofuel producers all over the world," said Ger Bemer, CEO of Royal Nedalco.
