Pratt & Whitney is looking to its efficient new state-of-the-art engine to help the company gain ground that was lost during the downturn. The new engine, called the Geared Turbofan, runs cleaner and quieter and is more fuel efficient than anything available and is years ahead of similar engines being made by General Electric Co. and Rolls Royce PLC. Pratt is waiting to see if Boeing Co. and Airbus will decide to redesign some of their commercial jets with the engine.
