United Airlines and Continental Airlines are about to find out how tough the White House's antitrust watchdogs are. The airlines unveiled their merger plans earlier this month. They said the combination would be pro-competitive, but some industry insiders and experts said the airlines should make some concessions to pave the way for a deal. "In this environment of re-invigorated regulation, it's in the interest of United and Continental management to stay out of court," said Jeffrey Breen, president of Cambridge Aviation Research.
