An analysis of search data on the TripAdvisor website shows a significant drop-off in searches for hotels, restaurants and activities at popular Gulf of Mexico destinations since the oil spill threatened beaches in the region. Searches involving Pensacola, Fla., for instance, were down 40% compared with the same period last year, and searches for Fort Walton Beach, Fla., were down 33%. But the larger cities of New Orleans and Gulfport, Miss., showed year-over-year increases of 12% and 10%.
