As crude oil continues to flood the Gulf of Mexico and stain the Southern U.S. coastline a month after a drilling rig burned and sank, critics are blaming the federal government and the major petroleum companies with failure to have proven cleanup technologies in place. "We're failing in the response simply because we'd never gotten ready," said Richard Charter, oil spill expert for the Defenders of Wildlife conservation group.
