Debate continues over the best approaches for preparing new teachers for the classroom. A University of Michigan program is taking the approach of having teacher candidates working in the classroom much earlier in their training. Students in the pilot program are on "rotations" similar to those in medical school in the hopes of instilling skills in new teachers that will help students learn. "It doesn't really make sense to you until you actually go in the classroom and see it firsthand, and then you can make sense of it," one student-teacher said.
