A Minnesota district is expected to decide next week whether to do away with class rankings -- a practice that some say can hurt students' chances of getting into college. At Mounds View High School, which would be affected by the change, the top 40 graduating seniors were separated by just three-tenths of a point. "I can understand a student and a parent's frustration that, 'I'm 0.3 away from a perfect GPA, and I'm 40th in my class?'" the school's principal said. However, experts say that colleges do not emphasize class rank when deciding who to admit.
