German chemical major Bayer expects its production of the foam-like material polyurethane, used heavily in construction and upholstery sectors, to reach 2008 volume levels, said Peter Vanacker, head of Bayer's polyurethane unit. "Global demand for polyurethane is growing at a rate of about 5 percent a year," Vanacker added. Meanwhile, Bayer is also leading in polycarbonate production, as heavy Asian consumer demand for portable electronic devices fuel more orders for Bayer's plastics offerings.
