BP next month will try to almost double its oil-capturing capacity by enhancing its containment system with a "hard cap" that can collect as much as 50,000 barrels a day, said U.S. Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen. This week, the company expects to be able to collect 28,000 barrels a day after an oil-flaring rig becomes operational, Allen said.
