The risk of dying from diseases of the heart and blood vessels was twice as high in people who had diabetes compared with those without the condition, according to a 10-year international study. Researchers also found that higher-than-normal levels of blood sugar may not predispose patients to heart attack or stroke since high blood sugar was not strongly linked to the adverse events in people without diabetes.
