One school in Kansas City, Mo., has students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades effecting positive change in their community through a student-led philanthropic board. Teacher Steve O'Neill created the Junior Board, which has students researching and raising money for nonprofit groups. "I saw a need for students to get out of their comfort zone," O'Neill said. "They're in the community a lot doing service hours, so I thought it would be good to learn more about the agencies they work with."
