A study of more than 17,000 women showed that environmental risk factors, including the use of hormone therapy and number of births, do not appear to increase the risk of breast cancer associated with 12 gene variants. The study did not include BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, which are much rarer but have a stronger link to breast cancer than the variants included in the study.
