The Associated General Contractors of America reported a 2.7% increase in nonresidential construction that occurred from March to April and directly linked that increase to federal-stimulus funding. "The stimulus is clearly driving one of the biggest increases in construction spending the industry has experienced in a long time," says AGC chief economist Ken Simonson. "Once you look beyond the stimulus, however, these figures show how uneven and fragile the construction recovery remains."
