Minnesota's Department of Transportation has strengthened its inspection workforce after a 2008 study showed that some 15% of bridges weren't getting inspected within the 24-month federal standard. Now that more inspectors are in the field, the state of Minnesota's infrastructure is becoming increasingly clear -- at least 120 bridges have been found to be deficient and obsolete. Engineer Tom Styrbicki of MDoT suggests that 150 bridges will need to be replaced in the next decade.
