Arizona's new immigration law does not go into effect for another six weeks, but there is already concern about how it may affect the state's housing market, which has recently showed signs of improvement, writes Catherine Reagor. The departure of homeowners affected by the law -- or simply opposed to it -- could mean an increase in foreclosures, in addition to more vacant houses and apartments. "If the law has the intended effect and these people do leave, then both population and demand for housing will probably decline," Phoenix housing analyst Mike Orr said.
