The iconic, 127-year-old Brooklyn Bridge is getting ready for a refurbishment. New York City is planning to spend $500 million to repaint and repair the aging structure -- and expand ramps from one to two lanes -- with the help of federal funds. The bridge, completed in 1883 at a cost of $15 million, spans New York's East River, connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn.
