Outlet sales are either up slightly or have remained stable, according to Linda Humphers, editor-in-chief of Value Retail News, which is published by the International Council of Shopping Centers. Such trends are benefiting developers that have focused on this retail category. Simon Property Group, for example, had a 91% occupancy rate for its traditional regional malls in the fourth quarter, compared with 98% for outlet malls.
