ProComp, Denver's performance-pay program for teachers, may have had a positive effect on the recruitment and retention of effective teachers, a report based on observational data suggests. Education Week blogger Stephen Sawchuk summarizes the University of Colorado at Boulder's study, which found that new teachers hired under the ProComp program had consistently higher math and reading achievement. "Hard-to-serve schools" with high numbers of ProComp participants had an increased teacher-retention rate, the findings showed.
