The Renewable Fuels Association is challenging a lawsuit filed by the Clean Air Task Force against the Environmental Protection Agency for failure to consider the "global rebound effect," a theory that posits that the EPA's renewable-fuels standard reduces global demand for petroleum, which leads to lower oil prices, higher consumption and more emissions worldwide. Bob Dinneen, RFA's president and CEO, said that it is "asinine" to penalize efforts to curb oil consumption in the U.S. for their alleged effect on global oil use.
